"Yeah, I got cut,” Semerzier said. “I gotta get hot again and earn my spot again.”
Semerzier made a big splash in his Zuffa debut back in 2009 in the WEC, submitting highly regarded submission specialist Wagnney Fabiano with a triangle choke. However, Semerzier was unable to put together much success for the rest of his run, losing three straight fights in the WEC and winning just one of three appearances inside the Octagon.
The most recent loss came when he got caught in a triangle choke by Daniel Pineda, which was turned quickly into an armbar that forced him to tap.
Penick's Analysis: I've always really liked watching Semerzier fight, but unfortunately he just couldn't put together the results to go along with his talent. He lost a couple of tough decisions in the WEC, including in his final fight against Cub Swanson in a fight I though he won. He had a good win against Alex Caceres, and then the unfortunate headbutt ending to his fight with Robert Peralta, but four losses in six fights makes it so the UFC isn't likely to retain your services. It's unfortunate for sure, but not entirely unexpected.
