After two dull fights to kick off Saturday's UFC 145 preliminary card broadcast on FX, things picked up in the final two bouts with impressive and exciting wins by Matt Brown and Travis Browne.

The show kicked off with a fairly uneventful bout between Mac Danzig and Efrain Escudero. Danzig controlled the action through the bout and took a unanimous decision. The story was about the same for John Makdessi and Anthony Njokuani, with the taller Njokuani being more effective from distance and not allowing Makdessi to do much en route to a unanimous decision of his own.

Matt Brown defeated Stephen Thompson by decision, but in much more entertaining fashion. After an even opening frame, both fighters turned up the damage as they slowed down physically. In both the second and third rounds, Thompson hurt Brown with an accumulation of strikes, but Brown surged back in both frames to deliver the worst beating Thompson's suffered in his career. He ended the fight in a mounted triangle, raining down punches to hand Thompson his first career loss.

The preliminary card came to a close quickly, as Browne made short work of Strikeforce import Chad Griggs. After a vicious flying knee, Browne picked Griggs up and slammed him to the mat. From there, he moved to mount, set up an arm triangle choke, and forced him to tap as he simultaneously went unconscious. It was a fantastic performance, and sent fans into the pay-per-view portion of the card on a high note.
